Hurricane Isaac (2006) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of hurricane Isaac.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Isaac originated from a tropical wave which moved off the coast of Africa on
September 18th. Convection with the wave consolidated a bit on the 23rd but,
the wave took until the 27th to organize into a tropical depression. Shear had
relaxed by this point. The depression strengthened into tropical storm Isaac
by the 28th, and didn't change much in strength the next 2 days. Cool waters
in the wake of Gordon and Helene, and dry air, inhibited Isaac. Shear lessened
by the 30th though, and Isaac also moved into warmer waters. This allowed
Isaac to quickly strengthen into an 85 mph hurricane by October 1st. At this
point, Isaac began to recurve around a ridge. Isaac was a weakening tropical
storm on October 2nd, and raced by Newfoundland. Some tropical storm force
winds occurred on the island. On October 3rd Isaac lost tropical characteristics
as it raced out to sea.
