Tropical Storm Chris (2006) Archive

This is the Hurricane Warning
archive of tropical storm Chris.
The best data available was used
to create this archive, in order to
make it as educational as possible.

Meteorological Analysis

Chris originated from a tropical wave which moved off the African coast on the
26th of July. This wave remained vigorous until the 28th, when it encountered
dry air and shear. On the 30th, a small burst of convection formed on the
before dry wave axis, and by the 31st the wave was rapidly organizing. On
August 1st, after a buoy detected a surface circulation had formed, the wave
was declared a tropical depression. The depression soon strengthened into
tropical storm Chris, and by August 2nd Chris reached its maximum wind
speed of 65 mph. People in the South East U.S. began to dread Chris, but
their fears were never realized. The high steering Chris began to shred Chris
mercilessly on the 3rd, and Chris slowly degenerated. During this time, Chris
dumped very heavy rain on Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. Chris then degenerated
into a remnant low near Grand Turk Island, Bahamas. The remnant low
skirted Cuba for awhile after that, before dissipating on August 6th near Havana.

Casualty and Damage Overview

There were no casualties reported in association with tropical storm Chris.
Some flooding damage occurred in Puerto Rico and Hispaniola, but it was
relatively minor.
